We asked students to share their stories about moving to Canada. Here’s what one said:
Way back to my old life in the pearl of the pacific sea, my life was simple and easy. I got lots of friends where I can meet them up anytime as I want and we always go to our favorite spots like plaza or computer gaming stations. Living in my country is easy but hard to live because most people there are poor where all things must be valued even old stuff that supposed to be really meant to throw. Well I’m so very lucky because my parents are working here so my life is not that too hard because they gave everything to me. I live in a big house before where we have hectares of hectares of land in our province that‘s owned by my grandfather that sometimes people called me sir or seniorito because of it. After sudden things that happened, my life changed a lot when I got my visa and came here in Canada. I was expecting that my life will be the same thing but a big no.
It was evening of last year that I saw Canada at the very first time and the funny things that came out to my mind that time was hip hop or cool things that I’ve seen in Hollywood movies. At the sky, I saw the whole entire Vancouver and Richmond in my window while thinking what will be my life hoping that people will be nicer to me. The time I stepped Canada after the flight, It was cool, fascinating and mix emotions. After couple of days here, I found that living in Canada is hard compare to my country because people are so busy and everything is money, well thinking of money makes me sick. I was very fascinated and out of breathe when the first time I came in downtown Vancouver it was a big wow and hugggggeeee I could say. It was kinda new for me at that time in downtown area that I saw big buildings, fashion stuff then the vibration of the place which I can’t really explain. I meet lots of different races in Canada like Chinese, Indian, Slovakian and other people in different countries which I found very interesting especially knowing their cultures and beliefs. It’s hard for me to talk to other people at first because my English is still not good and I’m still learning it.
Well speaking of good things I got in Canada is when the time I came to take the YES Program in RMCS that I found new friends and nice people right there. I love the tours that we made and things that I learned which is very helpful for us. I learned lots of stuffs from this program because they trying to help us to know our society more by giving us very helpful tips or guides. Right now I’m planning to go back to school hopefully everything will be good then I’m saying that I’m very lucky that I came here because I believed that there are lots of opportunities to me, “you know its Canada dude, Its Canada!!”
I know that this time I need to work from the very beginning and hoping that after couple of years I could see better things.
