Meet the Youth Troupe

Augustine Chan
Augustine’s parents immigrated to Canada from Hong Kong. He is a member of YSS: a youth organization hoping to link Chinese-Canadians with developing sections of China. He currently attends JN Burnett Secondary School.

Darya Dmitrivina Florinska
Darya’s parents were born in Russia and Siberia an she herself was born in the Ukraine. She is fluent in Russia, French and English and is the assistant stage manager for the McRoberts Secondary School Drama Department.

Through my work in R in 3D, I get to meet people from different cultures and get to know what they experience when they get picked on. And I’m learning what I can do to help step in.”

Justin Jianing Wang
Justin was born in Hangzhou, China. He is a member of the Student Council at JN Burnett High School and also is a member of two game-development teams.

“People come to us and tell thier feelings and stories and we play them back to helm them see them in a different light.”

Harper Campbell
Harper’s cultural background is Meti. He is a member of Pathways Aboriginal Centre and sits on their Aborginal Youth Council. He is also a founding member of Richmond Arts and Letters Society.

“The most exciting thing about acting out people’s storeies is getting it right; it’s a very fulfilling thing to see a story brought to life in the right way, but it’s alwasy a challenge.”

Katerina Ostrovsky
Katerina’s parents were born in Russia and she was born in Israel. She is fluent in Russia, French and Elglish. She is a member of the Drama Club and the Student Council at McRoberts Secondary School as well as a member of the Wood Club.

“The beautiful thing about playing out people’s stories is being able to experience that one moment in thier lives. That way, I have a deeper understanding of what they are going through.”

Marie-Claire Cobarrubia
Marie-Claire’s cultural background is from the Philippines. She was born in Canada and speaks Spanish as well as English. She is a member of the Drama depratment at McRoberts Secondary School.

“Since I joined R in 3D, I’ve been able to understand faiths and back-grounds a bit more and have discouvered ways to make everyone aware of different religions and different faiths.”

Ken Yiu Fung Cho
Ken was born in Hong Kon. He volunteers at the Richmond Centre for Disability and is a member of the Politicla Science Student Associations of UBC, the Chinese Collegiate Society and the Rotaract Club.

“I believe that laughter is the true way to connect with people. I would like to impact more youth and help them see that there is a way to how we see things.”

Kevin Changlu Liu
Kevin was born in China. He currently works at the Richmond Centre for Disability where he shares his computer knowledge with people with disabilities.

“I would like everyone to know that expressing emotions freely brings a very happy feeling, and this is the beginning of making the impossible possible.”

Kevin Chun Keung Mak
Kevin was born in China. He studies Human Kinetics at UBC and works as a math tutor. His aim is to become a doctor or physiotherapist. He volunteers at the Richmond Centre for Disability.
